Update projects: last semester 2024

Project progress

Goal 2025: Develop coaches and volunteers.

We focus on developing the quality and vision of each individual. We stand by their side in offering opportunities and want to use their network to help more people. We do this through our projects.

Visit from Hengelo, the Netherlands

Visits from the Netherlands in 2024.

We get extra incentive and encouragement from Dutch friends. They visited us in different periods and gave a boost to the projects. Through these visits they become acquainted with our local partners and are therefore directly involved. They can see how we lead the projects, how we select the future leaders and what the next steps of each project are. After a visit we receive many positive reactions! Finally, we have taken steps to prepare future leaders to lead and facilitate their communities using their talents. In the future we will see them grow as leaders who can pass this on to other young leaders.

Commemoration of the Second World War on “Kalibanteng War Cemetery”, Semarang.

As an annual event, we involve the 16 and 17 year old boys at our football school in the history of the Second World War. They come to lay flowers for the 3100 Dutch victims of this historic event on the “Field of Honor Kalibenteng”, behind our field. The negative stigma attached to stories about the Netherlands fades as one becomes aware of the other side of the story. We have a very good relationship with the Dutch “War Graves Foundation” when organizing the annual commemoration in August.

Coaching the new generation

Coaches schools.

Coach Peter is our head coach and instructor in technical football. He does a great job coaching his team at Terang Bangsa Semarang Football School and Academy. He also leads the trainer courses. His teams always achieve excellent performances. Last year he obtained his AFC-B license. He passes on his knowledge to our talented coaches: Ravindra, Kiky and Rayhan.

Coach Aprianke in the Moluccas is developing well as a coach. The village officials entrusted him to train the senior team and participate in local tournaments. Moreover, he also received some help from the local government in the form of a field and a contribution to expenses. This is very encouraging!

Project Bandungan.

A dream that will come true in 2025.

Ronald and this coach crossed paths for the first time in 2013. Coach Henri then took a “More than a game” course, where Ronald taught. In 2018, Ronald trained him as an instructor for a course. Coach Henri has now started coaching in his village which we have called “Project Bandungan”. Not only is he coaching, coach Henri also works as a pastor in his village and because of this he is more respected and he can mobilize the children to do football activities. He has a dream to start a football school like the one in Semarang, where he interned for a year. With the knowledge he gained there, he is able to start a football school, twelve years after he first came into contact with Awas Kaki.

Project Sumba 2025.

The step to move to Sumba is getting closer! Ricky and his wife Mia – our project manager- made an orientation trip to Sumba in 2024. They expected to make good contacts. They now have options on two houses. A primary school director would like to collaborate and there are projects they can do, such as developing education. These are steps that can hopefully be achieved this year. Their personal budget is now being worked on and we are confident that Project Sumba 2025 will be finally realized in March.

Further expansion of the work

Moluccas. Coach Ari: “After returning to my village in North Maluku, I started my daily routine as a coach again. This consists of: working in the garden from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and then football coaching from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Every week I train 4 times on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. I receive a lot of positive support from the local residents training. The village council also offers support in the form of a 1-year contract to train young people and children in the village. In addition to support, I also have challenges with training in my village to play football in the sense of not giving football boots. For the parents there, it is better that their children help their parents than that they play football, because it helps the family economy.
I have a future goal in coaching, which is to establish a football school, open a registration for our training, big matches or mini-tournaments every three months and football shirts for my boys.”

“Thanks to the help of Awas Kaki, I am now able to compete at my first provincial leve and I hope to serve at the national level soon. God bless you and coach Ronald. Greetings to Awas Kaki in the Netherlands” Tri Sutrisno.

We received this message as feedback on how the Awas Kaki project is helping and impacting the people we have helped. Tri Sutrisno is a young man who has the potential to become a professional referee with integrity and leadership attitude. Last year we helped him to follow a top-level referee course, so that he had the opportunity to referee at provincial and national level. Sponsorship by Awas Kaki offers opportunities to make dreams come true and change lives in the long term. Not only for Tri Sutrisno, but it can also help the family’s economy by providing more opportunities to achieve dreams and have a better life.

School fund projects

Daniel David, the children of our coach Yoyok, are doing great at school. Daniel is now at Terang Bangsa football school. He finished primary school this year and is going to secondary school. Daniel’s parents are still looking for a good secondary school for him. Hopefully we will be able to find a suitable school for him.

Franz Kiky is in his final year of university. He studied sports sciences and is a coach at Terang Bangsa Football School. He is developing very well as a coach and has been guided by coach Ronald and coach Peter. He takes over the Terang Bangsa children’s team and has won several tournaments. In the future he wants to become a football coach and sports teacher.

Nayla has done well in school and her sport of basketball. She is now part of the Salatiga city basketball team. She has attended various basketball competitions at the regional and provincial levels. As a person she is developing very well in socializing and as a teenager. She has become an aunt, because her big sister had a baby boy born this year. Her wish is that she can continue her studies after high school to go to university.

Febrian is studying for a master’s degree in strategic communication at university. He is now in his last second semester and doing well. He has a perfect results GPA (4.00 out of 4.00) for the first semester and also expects to achieve a good result for the second semester, which will be awarded in mid-June. Between June 21 and 31, he expects to defend his dissertation on a Strategic Communication research on plurality in Indonesia and on the progress of writing a publication on Strategic Communication in terms of Coörporate’s communication in the Sustainability Project. He expects that he will be able to graduate next year with a satisfactory result and reduce the study time to less than the normal study time of two years. The study is very useful for what he now does as a project manager in Indonesia for Awas Kaki.

Moluccas

Coach Peter has the AFC-B diploma.

After three weeks of hard work, coach Peter passed his AFC-B diploma. Everyone is very proud of him, because now he is the youngest and most highly qualified coach of all our football projects. Thanks to all our sponsors!

Project Bandungan.

Bandungan has a strong bond with our foundation, after we decided to move to Salatiga. Ronald visited this project every week to guide coach Henri in coaching and to provide advice. He has continued to develop as a coach and has obtained the PSSI basic license. In 2023 he did an internship at Terang Bangsa to become acquainted with the football curriculum. Now he is ready and has decided to return to Bandungan to build football there. Coach Henri continues to communicate with Febrian to start the establishment of a football school. This is a step for the long term, now he is focused on collecting and activating football as a development for the children in this village. He plans to start training in July with goals for 2024 that include gathering kids regularly three times a week, character building and targeting area tournaments. It is a strategic project to develop further and you can see that Wilco and Tom were also there during their visit to Indonesia a few years ago.

Project Sumba

Sumba is a strategic project with great potential for the future. This island is so special in Febrians heart. Now we have “planted” two people to do projects there. The project continues to grow and there are many doors open to do something. Demographically, as a very underdeveloped area in Indonesia. This area really needs stakeholders, people and attention to develop for the better. Education, health and other aspects still need to be improved. Through football and other initiatives we hope to improve the situation and build a bridge. Through strong collaboration with stakeholders and the local population, the project will have a major impact and, above all, be sustainable. In July, Febrian and his wife will go to Sumba and Timor to view projects and see the possibility of living there after completing their master’s degree. They are busy maintaining contacts, coordinating and budgeting and are indeed looking forward to being there.
